The Original Sugared Violet Hand Cream Pot

Packaged in a 10g jar within a sweet little box decorated with violet vignettes, the cream was an instant success when it launched 2 years ago, and now sells by the thousand as both the perfect little gift (think hostess present, party favours, teacher’s gift etc.) but also for the Rose & Co. girl in love with this sweet Victorian scent.

And so it made perfect sense to extend this delightful perfume into a whole range of prettily packaged bath & body potions, including a perfectly-portable tube for the hand cream (don’t worry, it will still be available in the little pot).

Violet Perfection

All the labels and boxes are decorated with charming scraps from the Victorian era, violets, kittens, baskets… Adorable! We had so much fun designing the packaging. The range includes a generous 500ml bottle of pearly Bath & Shower Creme (perfect as a gentle hand-wash too, more on this later!) and a creamy Moisturising Lotion, whipped with ginseng, comfrey and extracts of lavender and camomile to use every day. Keep it by the basin for a cheerful pop of fragrance every time you wash your hands.

If you need something a little richer than the lotion, our beautiful Body Cream will leave your skin moisturised and softly-scented. A traditional soap bar completes the collection and we are proud to support British manufacturing, our soap being made in one of the last remaining soap factories in England.

Painting and Decorating

If I’m honest, there’s always a little spike of worry – especially when launching new ranges. Will people like your creations? Will it be busy? When you’ve spent months designing and developing new products with a completely new look and feel, you have no way of knowing whether it will catch the imagination of your buyers until you take the leap and exhibit your wares, so on the first day I’m always a little nervous.

After months of preparation, actually setting up the stand takes a day (albeit a long one!): painting walls, assembling furniture and merchandising products. Once the show opens, everything is perfectly pristine, with no indication of the complete chaos just hours before! This show was all about our amazing merchandising units for retailers: giant floor-standing tiered cake stands to best display Patisserie de Bain products in-store. On the stand, our beautiful Rose & Co. ladies wear matching candy-stripe dresses to complete the scene.

Doggie Handbags?? No, I haven’t lost my marbles. I just couldn’t resist these charming bags when I spotted them at Autumn Fair in September. When I passed the stand I was immediately drawn to them, they are just so irresistible! Fun and frivolous, yes. LImited Collection Face Colours for Autumn

The first thing that attracts you to Paul & Joe cosmetics is undoubtedly the packaging. Vintage-chic styling and simply exquisite limited edition “Sparkles” collections every season make it desirable, collectable and perfect for the ladylike dressing table. But that aside, the actual products inside these beautiful objects are wonderful to use. Made in Japan, the quality and attention to detail is second to none.

The Iconic Face Powder & Puff

What girl could resist having this vision of loveliness on her dressing table? Not me, obviously. I use this powder every day without fail and it simply lasts and lasts, fixing make-up, absorbing shine and brightening the complexion quickly and evenly. And there’s no getting away from the fact that it just feels glamorous and a little bit decadent to use!

Nail Polish Remover

And then there’s the the nail polish remover, another of my favourite products. Nail polish remover in general is frankly dull, as far as beauty products go. But when I buy nail polish remover,  I don’t want it in a ghastly plastic bottle. I want it in a lovely embossed glass  bottle with a pretty lid that I can keep on display and enjoy every single time I use it. And this has to be the prettiest I have ever seen.

Customers have bought this product, used the contents, and re-filled it with a *whisper* cheaper brand, and of course that makes perfect environmental and economic sense, but again there’s no getting away from the fact that the product inside is very good and is worth the extra ££s.

The Harbour Bar, Scarborough

Today Amy and I went to Scarborough, with the specific purpose of visiting the wonderful Harbour Bar. This little piece of history was opened by the Alonzi family in 1945 and is virtually unchanged.

Keep Fit by Eating Ice Cream Every Day.

The original signs dotted throughout the place make some amazing claims; and I love the thought of generations of Yorkshire families being raised on the benefits of ice cream.

Yellow formica is the order of the day. Sit at the crescent shaped bar (preferably in a 1950s circle dress from Rose & Co.) for a knickerbocker glory, banana split, peach melba, cherryade or a soda float. In winter enjoy Horlicks and milky coffee served from huge urns.

Bananas, pineapple, strawberry and vanilla ice cream, chopped nuts, chocolate flakes and banana syrup. Heaven in a banana shaped dish.

As well as indulging in far too many gorgeous desserts, we spent a good while watching the girls create their masterpieces in ice cream and sat aghast as we witnessed how quickly people ate them.

This place comes highly recommended by all at Rose & Co., and is a must for lovers of vintage interiors.  And ice cream.
